This year a few of the grade twelve art students will be creating a "series". This is a few art pieces that are similar in some way. Either using the same material or the same general idea. For my art series my theme is a "grunge" fashion idea. My series will be connected by the overall theme. My first art series will be print making. I want to print a skull design on the front of my shirt with the back cut out in a skull. (refer to picture 1 & 2). For my next part of my series I want to create a pump shoe out of clay and have the design of a skull on the side of it. Kind of like the shoe in picture 3. For my last art series I want to create a painting using many different materials. I want it to look kind of like the art piece in picture 4. I will use water colour or acylic paint to make the base of my painting. Then I will add materials to make the painting three-dimensional.
It's so interesting to see your choice of theme. As we develop artist statements and explore your preferences for working with certain images and materials, I look forward to reading about your thought processes.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see that you're tying art with your interest in fashion -- it'll be interesting to see how you display all the pieces together in the end!
Some possibilities to consider:
-Since the first artwork will be wearable, would you want any of the others to be usable as well? (For example, would you ever want to re-design a pair of real shoes?)
-If you do work with clay, will the skull be carved out of the material, or designed with glaze?
-The first two artworks really combine fashion with the skull theme, but the last painting might seem a bit removed from the others if there is no reference to fashion. Not a huge problem, but just a thought.
Great start!
